Food and Nutrition Programs
Good Shepherd Episcopal School offers a comprehensive food and nutrition program for our families, including hot breakfast, morning snack and lunch.
Our farm-to-table food program emphasizes encouraging positive food choices, variety and locally-sourced, organic produce. All of our food is prepared fresh from scratch in our kitchen by our executive chef Nicole Michelau.
Children are exposed to a wide variety of cuisines through our rotating menu which encourages children’s enjoyment of fruits, grains, vegetables and proteins. We educate our students as to where their food comes from, what different foods do for their bodies and minds, and how sustainable food practices can ensure our heath and the health of our planet.
New in 2017! Parents may pre-order a fresh, made to order breakfast for their student to be served as early as 7:40 am. The meal changes bi-weekly and is available on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule.
Parents may pre-order a fresh, homemade heavy snack to be served as early as 9:00 am. The type of snack changes daily based on fruit availability; typical snacks include yogurt with fruit, granola, muffins or fruit smoothies. All snacks have no added sugar and are designed to digest slowly for steady energy during morning classes.
We offer two fresh entrees daily with appropriate sides such as vegetables (raw, steamed or sautéed,) whole grains (rice, quinoa, teff, farro, couscous) or roast potatoes. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options are available daily along with our fresh homemade soups, assorted salads and fresh fruit, available per cup at $1.00 per cup without advance order. Dessert is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays and typically incorporates fresh fruit with minimal sweeteners.
