Winter Shadows

Measuring shadows in winter for outdoor education

We had some wonderfully clear and sunny days this past week, perfect for measuring shadows! Middle School students studied the science and some traditions surrounding the Winter Solstice. Then they measured and recorded the length of their shadows the week prior to the shortest day of the year. They made predictions about what will happen when they measure their shadows again during the week of the Spring Equinox. Will the shadows be shorter or longer in March? We'll keep you posted!

Even in colder weather, students make time to do activities in the park.
