Thanksgiving in the Woods

student with Thanksgiving dinner made from natural items

Pretend play is at the core of our lower elementary Outdoor Education programming. Our goal is to foster the connection between children and nature by encouraging imaginative, hands-on play. The children loved gathering together for a Thanksgiving story and a pot-luck meal in the woods a few weeks ago. They gathered natural "ingredients" from the park and "cooked" their most innovative dishes! The whole class enjoyed dishes such as pine needle salad topped with a dirt dressing, macaroni and acorn casserole, pine cone cake, and mulch chocolate turkey!
