Enchanted Mail at the Netherwood Quarry

Students writing letters at Netherwood Quarry

Students in all grades love visiting the Netherwood Quarry along the Buttermilk Trail. This neighborhood treasure features steep granite cliffs, winding paths, and most recently, a mailbox nestled in the woods. Students enjoyed exploring the verdant side trail and checking out the journal kept inside the hidden forest mailbox. This “Dear Richmond'' journal, placed there by Richmond Grid and The James River Park System, is meant to be a therapeutic outlet for anyone who might find it and need a place to “write it out.” Nature is an ideal setting to express oneself in a soothing and peaceful environment, and the students certainly enjoyed the opportunity. They shared their experience hiking to this spectacular landmark and loved reading what others had written.
