Scott Dysart

Scott is an innovative manager and premier authority in streamlined process implementation.  He is a balanced leader, practiced in creating sustainable results through learning, practice and discussion.  He has put his considerable talents to work for Good Shepherd as Trustee, Parent, Volunteer and now Board President. 

 

Scott has a commitment not only to the sustainable growth of GSES, but also to the personal growth of all individuals affiliated with the school.  He has been an integral part of engaging professionals at The Hill School as GSES has evolved and enhanced its educational offering, modeled on the individualized approach of schools like The Hill School.

 

Scott earned his Batchelor of Arts degree at University of Richmond.  His wife, Laura, earned her Bachelor degree in Social Work at University of Richmond and is a GSES innovator in her own right, having spearheaded the most ambitious and successful multi-faceted fundraising campaign in the modern era of the school.  Scott and Laura are also proud GSES parents.

Jay Smith

Jay has deep expertise in the areas of strategic communications, coalition development and grassroots advocacy. His strength is using these techniques to help organizations achieve their public policy goals. Jay’s experience also includes extensive work in the political arena in the areas of communications, policy and research, having worked with a Virginia Governor and US Senate candidate.

 

Jay has been an integral part of the GSES evolution as we enhance our educational offering, modeled on the individualized approach of schools like The Hill School.

 

Jay holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master's of Public Administration (MPA) from Virginia Tech. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and serves as a weekly tutor for a disadvantaged student in the Richmond area. He also serves on the board of Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP). 

 

A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Jay is a die hard Virginia Tech Hokies fan.

 

Term ends 2011 at the close of the 2010-2011 school year.


Rebecca Lundgren

Rebecca is a CPA and brings a deep skill set to the GSES board, including fiscal planning, forecasting and significant technological skills.  With over 15 years accounting experience, Rebecca has provided clear financial guidance in her role as Treasurer.

 

Rebecca is a Richmond native, graduating from Douglas Freeman High School.  She attended University of Richmond, majoring in accounting, where she earned her BS in Business Administration Cum Laude, as well as a host of honors including Dean’s List, Intermediate Honors, the Ray Hailey Memorial Scholarship and the Virginia Society of CPAs Accounting Scholarship.  Her professional career involves some travel, including a recent voyage to a castle in Ireland.

 

She and her husband, Dave, met at University of Richmond.  Following an eleven year stint in Northern Virginia, the Lundgrens moved back to Richmond, VA to be closer to family.  Both Rebecca and Dave have logged countless volunteer hours at GSES, including Dave’s orchestration of the Great GSES Chili Cook Off in Spring, 2009 and Rebecca’s support of the business operations.  They live in Richmond with their family.

Kim Cosby-Johnson

Kim brings significant experience and skills in the areas of process organization, communication, marketing and strategic planning.  A 20+ year veteran of the financial services industry, she also has a deep appreciation for sustainable fiscal policy and planning.  She has spent the last eight (8) years deeply involved with financial and governance support services for nonprofit organizations.

Kim’s volunteer work at Good Shepherd has included serving as webmistress since 2008, Junior Varsity Soccer parent and booster since 2006 and general GSES advocate in the community.  As a GSES parent, she is deeply committed to the ongoing success of the school.

 

A native of Richmond, Kim earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has served as Treasurer for Unity Church of Richmond.  Her husband, Bill Johnson, is an Operations Manager and Lean Process Green Belt with Weyerhauser.  Kim, Bill, their son, Trey (9) and their “dogger” Lucy, live in the Forest Hill neighborhood.

Harriet Coulter
Director, Richmond Public Library

GSES Board of Trustees – Senior Warden, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

 

Harriet Henderson Coalter has been Director of the Richmond Public Library in Richmond, Virginia since September 2005.  She moved to Richmond from Montgomery County, Maryland, where she was Director of Montgomery County Public Libraries for eight years.  She has also been director of the Louisville Free Public Library (KY); Newport News (VA) Public Library; and Tyler (TX) Public Library. 

 

A past President of the Public Library Association, Ms. Coalter co-chaired the Every Child Ready to Read project for PLA and the Association for Library Services to Children.  She has also served as President of the Virginia Library Association, as a  member of the Urban Libraries Council Board of Directors, and served as Councilor-at-Large for the American Library Association.

She received her MLS from the University of Texas at Austin, and her BA from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas.  She has also participated in the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

 

As a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Ms. Coalter has been on the Vestry since January 2007.  She served as Junior Warden in 2007 and 2008, and as Senior Warden in 2009. 

 

She is married to Joe Coalter, and lives in the Westover Hills West area of Richmond. 


Ben Lehman

Ben is the elder statesman of the Good Shepherd community.  Ben has offered immesurable assistance in role as Vestry representative and liason between our school and church communities.

Lauren Stephens, LCSW

Lauren is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and brings both passion and patience as an involved GSES Parent and board member.  She is a nine year parent veteran of Good Shepherd, and her commitment to the school has extended to serving as a teacher in the Early Education program.  2009-2010 is Lauren’s second year as PTO Representative to the Board of Trustees.  She has been an active member of the PTO for the last nine (9) years.

 

Lauren earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History at The College of William and Mary, and her Masters in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University.  She and her husband, Mark, live in the Forest Hill neighborhood with their sons Ken (12) and Andrew (10), and their cat, Tux.  The Stevens family are great adventurers and travelers and have recently completed an amazing journey to Germany and Italy in the Spring of 2009.

 

In her spare time, Lauren loves to cook, garden, paint, bike ride and play with her kids.

 

Term ends at the end of the 2009-2010 School Year, with option to renew if mutually agreed.

 

Stephen Dearsley

Stephen's affiliation with Good Shepherd began when his granddaughter attended the school.  Recognizing the rich education provided at GSES, Stephen has been kind enough to lend his educational expertise to Good Shepherd for a second term.

Sue Morgan
Independent Professional Tutor

Sue Morgan is a highly respected and well‐known educator in Richmond. She is a current Commonwealth of Virginia Licensed Collegiate Professional certified in elementary education, Preschool to Grade 4, and Middle School Education, as well as in History for the High School level. Many families in the Richmond area have come to Sue for both remedial and extension education services. She has also provided consulting services for University of Richmond Disability Law Clinic. Her dedication to whole child, individualized instruction has created phenomenal results for her students.

 

Sue is a graduate of James Madison University and has completed additional studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Virginia, the College of William and Mary and the University of Richmond. Her website, www.suemorgantutor.com, provides further insight into her background, teaching philosophy and success stories. Sue is also a long‐standing supporter
of Good Shepherd Episcopal School and a wonderful neighbor in Westover Hills.

 

Sue Morgan Tutoring is proud to be the only tutoring agency that has been a Partner in the Arts for the Virginia school system through the University of Richmond.

Brad Welles

Brad is a Certified Public Accountant and a long‐standing supporter of youth education and advocacy. He is a past Treasurer and a current board member of Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) and serves on the Advisory Council for the Accounting Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.

 

Brad graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987. His wife, Stephanie, is an educator, teaching Spanish at the Maggie Walker Governor’s School for International Studies in Richmond, Virginia. Brad and his wife and sons live in Hanover, VA.

David Lynch

GSES Board of Trustees - Trustee, Fundraising/ Development Committee Chair

 

David Lynch is a highly respected and extremely active member of the Forest Hills neighborhood. He was part of the team that helped bring the South of the James Farmer’s Market to Forest Hill Park , serving on the board and supporting the merchandising and
marketing efforts. Many Forest Hills/ Westover Hills/ Woodland Heights residents have met David at The Market Umbrella during the farmer’s market season. David is also a Neighborhood Watch block captain.

 

A native of North Carolina and formally trained in operations, David brings incredible skills and experience to share with Good Shepherd. David honed his skills in operations as a director for major retailers including Gucci, and Tiffany. In 2008, he expanded his career and entered the field of real estate, and he has had several successful listings in the Forest Hills/ Westover Hills/
Woodland Heights neighborhoods.

 

David looks forward to leveraging his skills to support the growth and vitality of Good Shepherd Episcopal School.

Robin McVoy lends both her legal expertise and her deep dedication to Good Shepherd to our Board of Trustees.  After completing a one year term as a Trustee, Robin has agreed to continue on the Board in an advisory capacity.

Peggy White

GSES Board of Trustees - Administration Advisor

 

Peggy brings over 30 years experience in education and school administration to GSES as an Advisory member. She earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Education (grades 1 – 7) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1971. She completed work toward her doctorate in Education Administration and Supervision at University of Virginia (1978).


Her work experience includes serving as an Independent Consultant to the Virginia Department of Education, focusing on the Standards of Learning and School Review Assignments (2002‐2008); Principal at Greenfield, Evergreen and Crestwood Elementary Schools (1990‐2002); and Assistant Principal at Crestwood, Swift Creek, Beulah and Falling Creek Schools (1975‐1990).
Peggy’s areas of strength include teacher training, organization and supervision of instruction, data analysis, time management, budgeting, group dynamics and holistic education, incorporating the whole person and leveraging individual strengths. She brings a life‐long dedication to supporting individual development through education to Good Shepherd Episcopal School.
